8/30/2024 Day 335, Friday, Many Faces of Suffering

In society I see the many faces of suffering. Some people have a hard fight for various reasons: Appearance, Family, Poverty, Mental ability, level of emotional resilience, intellect, physical ability, Social ability. All this plays a role in a person’s ability to achieve goals, it also plays a role in a person’s choice of goals.

This hierarchy begins in school, and develops as we mature. Some seem destined to succeed, where others seem destined to struggle.

Nature and capitalism have strong parallels. Socialism seems to fail on the high end of the socialist spectrum, and varies depending on availability of resources, but can succeed when coupled with enhanced human rights and freedoms.

In Massachusetts we’ve adopted a mirage of socialism where socialism is preached by politicians, billions of dollars are spent, yet poverty expands exponentially, and the divide between the wealthy and the poor grows day by day.

What we see as the Homeless crisis, the Addiction epidemic, and the mental health crisis are symptoms of a failed Political ideology that is Capitalized Socialism. I believe this now. We are just beginning to see the devastation Capitalized Socialism will cause on our social and economic systems.

This is a picture of two different countries at night. One is highly Socialist the other is Powerfully Capitalist thanks to America. The Capitalist Country has actually surpassed American Capitalism in my opinion. This is North and South Korea. Take a look at what politics will do to a nation of people.

My girlfriend and I were woken up by her son who got up around 8:00 a.m. I got up and I made breakfast for my girlfriend’s son and myself. My girlfriend wasn’t hungry.

We spent time together in the morning and I got ready to leave to go to Boston to join a conversation station with Everyday Boston nonprofit.

I got my small backpack and my bicycle off the back of my car and I arrived at the Lowell train station for the 10:22 a.m. train into North Station.

I rode my bike over to the Greenway in the North end of Boston. I couldn’t find the conversation station so I stopped at a hot dog and sausage cart and got a jumbo hot dog with all the fixings, no onions, because onions are yucky. I met up with a member of the bridge program, a reentry program for Everyday Boston, named Steve.

Steve and I hung out for a while talking, and then Cara arrived. Most of the people walking by didn’t seem interested in talking. Mostly Cara, Steve, and myself discuss various things such as Everyday Boston, our experiences with formerly incarcerated folks, and being formerly incarcerated, and just dealing with people in general in this sphere of charity and human service.

At around 3:00 p.m. we all parted ways. I decided to get something to eat since I was in the North end, and I always just get something to eat. I saw some guys sitting at the Greenway with delicious chicken parmesan subs. I saw the name Bricco on the bag and asked them where they got the subs. They told me of this little butchery and a back alley that has some of the best subs in town, just down the street. I decided to go there.

I walked my bike over to Bricco. It was a high end Italian restaurant with a bakery and a butchery in the back alley. I went inside the butchery and I ordered a chicken parm sub. There was another handsome young gentleman there ordering the same sub. We ended up sitting at a table in the back alley together. His name was Matt. He told me he was a scout for professional hockey players. He grew up in the North end and he told me that this was one of the best spots in town. He was a really cool person, was really easy to talk to and he enjoyed our subs together.

I took my time getting back to North Station to take the train back to Lowell. You can only take bikes on the train before and after rush hour. The next train leaving that allowed bikes was 7:00 p.m. I arrived at North Station around 6:00 p.m. and I just hung out waiting for the time to arrive.

At 7:00 p.m. I took the train back to Lowell, from the world train Station I rode my bike to my girlfriend’s apartment where I spent the night with her and her son.
