1/20/24 Day 112, Saturday, Northshore, A Cold Night in the Tent with My Girlfriend

7:00 a.m. I woke up at my girlfriend’s apartment. She wasn’t able to pick her son up again because she was so burned out from the accident.

I get out of bed round 8:00 a.m. and I start to get my stuff together. I say my goodbyes and I head towards Saugus to play handball.

9:10 a.m. I arrived at the courts at LA fitness in Saugus. There’s a good few of us today. It’s always good catching up with the homies, and playing some doubles matches on the four wall court.

11:00 a.m. It’s a brutally cold day and I’m in Salem looking for Michael, and Witch City Action. I asked a few people I see in the streets if they’ve seen Michael. Nobody’s seen him.

I grab a meal from Lifebridge and I hang out around the flag posts in downtown Salem. I eat my lunch and I feed some of the seagulls. I texted one of the people at Witch City Action, and she let me know that they are at Salem House of Pizza. I take a walk over there and I sit in while they do their weekly meeting about different topics on how to help homeless people in Salem.

1:00 p.m. When I leave Salem House of Pizza I walk around the streets of Salem for a while looking for Michael. I can’t find him anywhere. I catch a protest at the flag posts for free Palestine and stop the bloodshed. I also met up with my friend Ryan at the Tent City next to Wendy’s and he donated some valuable resources to the people there like blankets, and other goods.

2:30 p.m. I drive over and park my car near the woods where my camp is. I grab a drink from the store, and I hike out to my camp. I had been in communication with my girlfriend and she plans on spending the night with me in the tent in the freezing cold. She’s definitely a keeper.

My girlfriend arrives near the woods and parks her car around 7:00 p.m. I hiked out of the woods to meet up with her. Once again I sneak up on the deers without seeing them and when they jump out of fright it frightens the hell out of me. I’m always happy to see the deers and although I frightened the deers the mother deer sees me and stops and is no longer afraid. Once I meet up with my girlfriend we stop at a grocery store and get some cookies, and some candies. She has drinks in her bag. Her and I hike out into the woods together. When we get close to my campsite we see a big fluffy cat-like animal bound off into the forest. I’m still not sure what type of animal it was, a coyote, a bobcat, perhaps it was a fisher cat. Regardless, it was beautiful and it was super fluffy.

8:30 p.m. my girlfriend and I settle into the tent and we bundle up and do our best to stay warm throughout the night. I will admit that at one point I did get a little afraid because she had a sharp crystal on the air mattress. We bickered about that a little bit. But besides that we stayed close, huddled for heat and did the best we could to stay warm throughout the night. I believe she had more trouble with the cold than I did.
