1/16/24 Day 108, Tuesday, Salem, A Day in the Tent

8:00 a.m. I woke up in the tent. I was going to sleep at Michael’s camp last night in my tent there. But The zipper on Michaels tent broke so I gave him my tent. I hiked out into the woods to sleep in my resurrected tent. It’s been snowing in the night and it’s cold out, probably around high 20s Fahrenheit. I stay in the tent and I do a video.

Around 11:00 a.m. I left the tent to get food. On my way out of the forest I see the deers in the area where I usually see them grazing on different plants. I do a video because they’re so beautiful. I go to the grocery store and I get a few items: cookies, Reese’s, some chef boyardee raviolis, some orange juice, Snickers, and some orange juice.

I spent the rest of the day in the tent. Snow shifts over to freezing rain. I cooked some raviolis on my tent heater. In inclement weather like this there’s really not much to do. I keep my phones charged and I scroll around on social media and online. It is amazing that we live in a day where we have constant connection to infinite information. The goal is to stay warm and bundled up in my tent. I can imagine in times past how people used to survive the winter and just hunker down with what gear they had, and in the makeshift shelters they could build for themselves. Human nests where we do our best to get through harsh conditions.
