2-21-2024 day 144, Wednesday, Easing into the City

5:30 a.m. I woke up, I got my things together, and I drove to work.

7:00 a.m. I arrived at work. I spent the early morning getting ready to do outreach with my partner. I’ve been working on building out a routine and a system for the outreach work we do, so we can measure our effectiveness and track the people that we are tasked with engaging with and helping with services.

11:00 a.m. My coworker and I go about our routine. I’m starting to get an idea of how many people are homeless, as well as what this job will entail. There’s a lot of networking to be done. I wish there was more shelter space for the unhoused people in the city. Half the people we engage would be willing to take shelter.

I love the Merrimack River that runs through the city. For a long time I have dreamed of planting roots in these triplet mill cities. I’m happy to finally be able to do that.

3:00 p.m. I wrap up work and drive over to my girlfriend’s new apartment. It is a task to organize her stuff so that it fits in a smaller space. This is something she’s been working on diligently, and I am assisting here and there. My girlfriend and I spend the night together.
