8/5/2024 day 310, Monday, Out of the Woods and Into the City

I woke up in the tent with vertigo at 6:30 a.m. Don’t know what caused it probably food poisoning. I shouldn’t have eaten that haddock chowder. I took my caffeine pill and got one of the nicotine pouches. And I got ready to drop a steaming pile down by my tree bathroom. Pure mud. I don’t know, it could have been a bunch of things that made me sick. I’m guessing it’s something I ate. I’ve been eating a lot of cheese and crackers, Benevida fiber breakfast crackers. I can stay out in this tent indefinitely. I really do want to get my gear together and head out to Boston. Through my funk I built up my motivation. I packed up my gear and I drove to Beverly.

I parked my car near the train station on a street where my little car would be safe for a few days. I collected my hiking pack, my helmet, and I unhooked the bike from the bike rack and I rode over to Beverly train station on my bike. I met a man in his ’60s. He asked me for a cigarette and I told him all I had was my nicotine vape. I forgot how it came up but I mentioned I’ve been living homeless and I was heading into Boston. He told me that he had been homeless for 10 years. I said I tell you what, we have some time before this train comes I’ll go buy a pack of cigarettes and I’ll give you some. Would you be willing to tell me some of your story?” I got cigarettes. I gave him five cigarettes and he gave me a quick interview.

Shortly after the interview the train arrived and I rode in to North Station. I rode my bike over to Planet fitness on Winter Street Boston. I locked up my bike, and I went into Planet fitness and I locked up the larger part of my hiking pack and I unzipped the small backpack for travel. It has been quite a few days since I took a shower so I utilized The showers at Planet fitness. I hung out at Planet fitness for a while in my little room, uploading blogs and working on writing.

I started to get hungry so I walked over to Roche Brothers and I got a strawberry and blueberry fruit cup and some sushi with my food stamps. I ate the sushi and some of the fruit and I saved some of the fruit cup for later in my backpack.

I took a walk over the Commons and left my bike locked up at Planet fitness. I received a phone call from one of the jobs I’m looking into, which will start in October. It’s a sales job for addiction medicine. I did the interview over the phone which went well. I hung out in the park and I worked on uploading some blogs.

At 4:30 p.m. I took a ride over to Old West Church for the Monday dinner. I actually couldn’t remember where the dinner was, so I had to go over my old blogs from when I was last in Boston to figure out where to go. When I arrived at the garden outside the church I saw my old friend Freitas and  Midnight The transgender homeless couple I spend time with last time I was homeless in Boston last year. They told me a little bit about their trip to Florida, how unproductive it was. They seem defeated and now they were here in Boston homeless again with all the same struggles, as well as bags and suitcases. What I would consider too much stuff for a homeless person to carry. They say that they must have outfits and makeup and all these things because they are transgender. It makes it very difficult for travel. We ate dinner together at the church. Freitas told me to meet him tomorrow night at the church of the Adventist for dinner, and he would give me the list of all the meals throughout the week in Boston.

After dinner you want our separate ways and I stopped by the Chinatown branch of the Boston Library charge my phones for a bit.

At 7:30 p.m. I rode my bike back over to Planet fitness on Winter Street and I got my gear from the locker and I left Planet fitness to go to my sleeping spot. There had been an older taller skinny homeless man hanging outside Planet fitness named Dave. Him and I talked for a while and he told me his story. He tells me he was living at the chattick cottages, and his friend nodded out and he took 2 oz of fentanyl from him. He left the cottages and now sleeps outside waiting for the fentanyl to run out, at which point he plans to go to detox. Dave has been an addict since the 70s.

I rode my bike to the church that I sleep at. It’s been quiet there and when I arrived I was all alone. I set up my air mattress got my pillow my blanket. I scrolled around on social media for a while and then I was asleep. Later on I was awoken by coughing. It seems another homeless person had arrived and was sleeping there now. I wonder if it was Kim, who I met last year at this frequent sleeping spot.
