3-14-2024 Day 166, Thursday, A day in the new outreach truck

6:00 a.m. I woke up at my girlfriend’s apartment. We smoke weed at night, and today I woke up super tired and groggy. This doesn’t always happen, but today it’s a real drag on my day.

At 6:30 a.m. I drive over to work. The Outreach team arrived at the shelter at 7:00 a.m. We loaded up the Outreach truck with food, drinks, socks, hats, little backpacks with cosmetics in them, and clothes.

At 8:30 a.m. The Outreach team stopped at the park on West Street. We encountered Carlos, Francesco, Aliza, Bernabe, Ashley, and Ariel. We provided backpacks, cosmetics, drinks, food, hats, and gloves to all these individuals. Each of these individuals suffers from substance use disorder and Ariel seems to have schizophrenia.

9:00 a.m. The Outreach team stopped by the office of the CEO for the company I work for to go over the truck. We discussed the vehicle, care and upkeep of the vehicle, in future plans for expanding the outreach program. The Outreach team scoured the streets looking to see who might be out and about. We checked out new spots in West Lawrence. We did not see many people in the street.

11:00 a.m. the Outreach team stopped by the Homeless Day shelter Church where we met Mathew, Carolyn, Jose Luis Enrique, Ralph Francois. We handed out socks, gloves, hats and drinks to all these individuals.

At around 12:00 p.m. the Outreach team received a call from the shelter that Michael was waiting for the Outreach team and needed help with his license. The Outreach team came back to the shelter.

I spent the next 2 hours working with Michael to clear up issues with excise tax and money owed to the registry. The company I work for agreed to help pay the dues for Michael’s license. I’ll be working on that today and next week.

3:00 p.m. After a long day of work I spend the rest of the afternoon driving to pick up my truck which I left in Danvers. I had my little car that had my tools in it to help with my girlfriend’s projects. I Stopped by a friend’s house and hung out for a while there.

At 8:30 p.m. I drove to my camp and slept there for the night. I could hear the peepers peeping away, it reminded me of being at my childhood home or my mother lives next to a swamp where you can hear the frogs all night long. It was a refreshing sound. It means that spring is coming soon.
